 1935年春，紅軍途經貴州某地布依族山區。連長萬剛帶領小分隊到石門寨偵察，營救了被反動土司白山魈迫害的布依族姑娘刺莉。白山魈棄寨逃走。刺莉為報私仇，射死了白山魈的殺人工具“神虎”。紅軍為救濟貧苦人民開展了分糧活動。巫婆迷娜乘窮人韋么叔的孫子誤食生谷得了急病之機，掀起“退糧祭虎”風波。刺莉魯莽地要捉迷娜，險些引起家族格斗。連長萬剛及時趕來，揭穿敵人陰謀，教育了刺莉和布依族群眾。為感謝紅軍，刺莉和群眾決定將“紅軍萬歲”四個大字刻在神巖上。紅軍幫布依族群眾成立了石門赤衛隊，刺莉當了隊長。紅軍小分隊離開石門寨后白山魈卷土重來，威逼群眾鏟除標語，并槍殺了韋么叔。為挽救鄉親，保護標語，班二公挺身赴險，將“紅軍萬歲”深深地刻在神巖上。白山魈將班二公施以酷刑。刺莉和赤衛隊員們為救班二公，智擒國民黨派往石門寨的敵參謀長，并闖入虎穴，逼白山魈釋放了班二公。紅軍小分隊重返石門寨，同刺莉、班二公等赤衛隊員們，一舉殲滅了石門埡口的守敵。刺莉親手射死了仇人白山魈。石門寨布依族群眾送別紅軍，刺莉告訴紅軍：革命的火種已經深深地播在了山寨人民的心里。
