大內(nèi)庫藏武功秘笈《葵花寶典》失竊。東廠主管太監(jiān)古今福（劉洵 飾）率千戶歐陽全（張學(xué)友 飾）等，南下調(diào)查辭官錦衣衛(wèi)林鎮(zhèn)南，同時(shí)收用“五岳盟主”左冷禪（元華 飾）外圍策應(yīng)。華山派大弟子令狐沖（許冠杰 飾）與師妹岳靈珊（葉童 飾）奉師命增援林鎮(zhèn)南，無奈兩人實(shí)力不濟(jì)，領(lǐng)得林鎮(zhèn)南遺囑后遁走，二人于路先后巧遇順風(fēng)堂堂主劉正風(fēng)（午馬 飾）、日月神教長(zhǎng)老曲洋（林正英 飾）、華山派風(fēng)清揚(yáng)，獲傳《笑傲江湖》曲譜和獨(dú)孤九劍。 各路人馬為《葵花寶典》紛紛聚于苗人地界，歐陽全與左冷禪爭(zhēng)功不下，遂假扮林平之混入華山派一行。令狐沖結(jié)識(shí)日月神教任盈盈（張敏 飾）與藍(lán)鳳凰（袁潔瑩 飾），因曲洋之關(guān)系得其協(xié)助。古今福與岳不群為《葵花寶典》大打出手，令狐沖不忍一班師兄弟受牽連憤而使出獨(dú)孤九劍，始明了“笑傲江湖”真意。 本片根據(jù)金庸同名小說改編。
